Tell me about your primary medium?
My primary medium of creative expression would be photography, both moving and stills.
[Moving and stills?]
Motion and stills.
[When you say stills do you mean landscapes?]
By motion, I mean narrative
[So with an idea behind it?]
Right, Correct.
The distinction between motion is generally moving pictures
So video and filmmaking,
and stills would be, obviously, still images
[Gotcha!]
My primary medium is photography but there are technically two categories
“Motion and Stills”
[That’s interesting, pardon my ignorance but is there a difference then between photography and videography… or are those two different things?]
No motion covers literally every aspect of moving pictures.
So film, video…
[I learned something new today!]

Tell me about your secondary medium?
My secondary medium would be writing.
I’ve pretty much been writing since high school.
Started journalism right out of high school.
10 years later, I’m still pursuing it.

When did you start your primary medium?
I think the starting date for my primary is evolutionary in a way where I feel like it didn’t start at one point.
[You always had a camera in your hand]
Not so much a camera, but I think the basis of all my artistic mediums has been storytelling.
I started with writing first, photography came soon after, and then eventually motion.
So the underlying magnet to everything for me is storytelling.

When did you start writing?
I started writing around 2010.
I was in high school.
I was a big library nerd.
I was at the library after school, reading, writing with my friends, publishing books and stuff like that.

Does your writing affect the way you take photos or shoot film?
I wouldn’t say that it affects it, but it definitely has an effect on it.
Effect often denotes something negative happening, but I think there’s an efficacy towards writing with filmmaking because it’s a translation of words on a page to a visual medium.

How else do you consume art?
Since I’m living in this world of photography and writing, it’s definitely all film consumption.
I also read a lot of poetry.
I enjoy reading books.
[Do you have any favourite poets?]
Ralph Walter Emerson
Although I wouldn’t necessarily call him a poet, more of an essayist.
I love reading what I guess modern language would describe as “think pieces”.
But yeah, uh, Ralph Walter Emerson is a phenomenal essayist.
I really enjoy his work.
My consumption of art is definitely through:
 poetry,
writing,
watching films,
and just going out with friends and getting inspiration based on conversations with them.

What do you do when you feel devoid of creativity?
I don’t know, it’s very seldom that I’m devoid of creativity,
because I feel like my whole life has been surrounded by art,
from childhood to where I am currently.
Being part of a union that’s dedicated to filmmaking.
I feel like this consumes my life so much.
Because I’m so well-rounded and multifaceted in ways of art,
from cameras,
to lighting,
to photography,
to writing…
I don’t know…
I’m very reluctant to say that I am devoid of [creativity] because it surrounds my whole life.
